Taylor Lautner Too Busy To Star In New ‘Sharkboy and Lavagirl’ Sequel?

Taylor Lautner isn’t reprising his role of Sharkboy in the upcoming Netflix sequel to the iconic 2007 movie “Sharkboy and Lavagirl,” and fans are not so happy about it.

The highly anticipated sequel, among people my age, is set to drop on Netflix on January 1, 2021. One more reason why I can’t wait for this year to finally end. In this new sequel, “We Can Be Heroes,” Sharkboy and Lavagirl are parents and in danger. Not a lot more is known about the pseudo sequel except for the cast. The movie stars, Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra, Christian Slater, Taylor Dooley who is returning as Lavagirl and a bunch of other people. Their daughter will be played by Vivien Lyra Blair, who was girl in “Bird Box.” What an outstanding cast. One name missing however, is Taylor Lautner.

While I’m excited for this sequel, I’m super angry that Taylor Lautner isn’t back as Sharkboy. I mean, what is he so busy with, that he can’t find the time to give the people what we want. I haven’t seen him in a movie in years. You would think, reviving your most iconic character, would be a great way to break back into the business. If this is due to an oversight by Netflix and not a Lautner refusal, shame on them. Twitter is full of angry and heartbroken people like me.

Here are just a few of my favorite tweets, reacting to this truly heartbreaking news.

I agree with the man crumpling the papers! That dream song is my favorite part of the original movie! How are you going to a have a sequel, then go and exclude the original’s biggest star? While I’m against this casting decision, I’ll probably still watch the new movie. It’s a huge disappointment, and will probably super cheesy, but nostalgia makes us do strange things. At least we can have a good laugh while watching. I also gives us something to look forward to during this horrible time. Lastly, I’ll end this by saying, nothing can top the original!

Are you excited for the “Sharkboy and Lavagirl” sequel? Does it bother you that Taylor Lautner isn’t in it? Let me know in the comments!
