Weekend Roundup: Top Four Craziest Moments From This Weekend

This weekend was filled with crazy headlines, and I’m here to break it all down, for everyone too busy to keep up, in my weekly weekend roundup.

Between basketball and Broadway and Lizzie McGuire and Jim Halpert, the headlines this weekend were crazy. Fans are accusing which celebrity of selling out? Who is involved in child sex trafficking? Are we ever going to see the end of the 2019-20 basketball season? Don’t worry, all those questions and more will be answered in this week’s Weekend Roundup.

Hilary Duff a Sex Trafficker?

Actress Hilary Duff spent her weekend defending herself from accusations that she runs a child human trafficking ring. I mean talk about a far fetched idea. The rumors started when she posted a naked video of her son on Instagram. She covered certain body parts with emojis, but fans were still offended by the video. Not sure how this turned into human trafficking rumors though. That’s just how the internet works I guess. She responded to rumors, calling them garbage and disgusting.

“Whoever dreamed this one up and put this garbage into the universe should take a break from their damn phone. Maybe get a hobby.”

Hilary Duff’s response to the rumors.

I think these rumors are ridiculous. Who could possibly think that America’s sweetheart could ever be involved with something like this? Someone posts a video of their son and that suddenly means they’re a madame? Whoever came up with this really is just bored at home. That could be fixed in literally a million different ways but starting an ugly rumor like this is not one of them. I’m sure she’ll be more careful about what she posts after this whole fiasco though.

What’s Happening with Basketball?

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the 2019-20 NBA season was postponed. Fans have missed seeing their favorite teams battle it out for the title of world champions. We were appeased for five weeks with Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance” but that’s over now and we need out basketball! The season was postponed due to safety, after two players tested positive for the virus. I think the NBA made the right choice initially, to suspend the season, but the time has come to get it started again. No one is more excited than the players though.

Lebron James’ tweets about potentially cancelling the whole season.

According to the league’s statement, if the season were to resume, it would come back in late July. Since different states have different guidelines, Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida would serve as the sole location for all practices and games. I am on the fence about this decision because it seems like having everything in one space would cause the virus to spread faster. At the same time, I want the season to start again so I’m really excited by this. The Lakers were finally having a good season, after years of losing, and then this had to happen. I just hope they play just as good when the season restarts.

Jim Halpert a Sellout?

John Krasinski
John Krasinski

At the start of quarantine, John Krasinski put smiles on everyone’s faces with his YouTube show, “Some Good News.” His show had eight episodes and everyone loved them! The very same thing that made everyone so happy is now pissing everyone off. Earlier in the week, The Hollywood Reporter revealed John sold the show to Viacom for a bunch of money after a “massive bidding war.” Fans are hurling a series of insults at Krasinski, calling him a sellout and accusing him of never caring about doing good, only making a buck.

I can see where people are coming from. The show was all about making people happy so it does seem a bit deceiving to turn around and make a profit off of it. It certainly does cheapen the good deeds done on the show and make it seem as if they were done for money rather than out of kindness. Throughout its run, John organized an office reunion for a couple’s wedding, a virtual prom and surprises for healthcare workers. Nearly 70 million people tuned in so it makes sense to turn it into a TV series.

Broadway Star’s COVID Recovery

Nick Cordero and his family

After months of bad news, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel for Nick Cordero. The Broadway actor had been in the hospital since March, dealing with the fallout from his COVID-19 diagnosis. He was placed in a medically induced coma in early March and for a while, things were not looking good for him. His wife Amanda Kloots is keeping everyone updated through every step of his journey, and is asking for everyone’s prayers. Cordero suffered lung damage, had his leg amputated and then went into septic shock. Finally the good news came a week ago that Nick had woken up from his coma and was taken off of the ventilator.

It seemed as though things were going well, however a few days ago Amanda asked for mega prayers due to a setback. She wasn’t specific about what the setback was just that it was serious. Now we know, he had picked up a new lung infection. It looked bad, but he is recovering and taking it day by day. The family hopes to have Nick home by their son Elvis’ first birthday on June 10th. I have been following this story since the beginning and I really hope it has a positive ending.

  1. Thanks for the weekend roundup. It was an interesting read. I love how pure and innocent Hillary Duff is. Can’t imagine how anyone would spread rumors about her like this.
