Netflix’s Final Ratched Trailer Shows Origin Story Of Infamous Nurse

Netflix dropped the final trailer for Ratched this morning and audiences are buzzing over Sarah Paulson’s upcoming horror show.

The new show tells the origin story of Nurse Ratched, the infamous head nurse from the novel, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” This is something none of us asked for, but are so happy we now have. The trailer shows flashbacks of Nurse Mildred Ratched growing up, in what seemed to be a really tense environment.  Not really the idyllic childhood if you ask me. She says it herself in the trailer, she might be a different person, if only someone had shown her mercy.

I first read One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in the 10th grade, and honestly was not into it. I read it again a few years later however, and I learned to appreciate it. Then I saw the movie and fell even further in love with the story. Each character has so much depth behind them, and you feel for each one of them. I remember thinking, there has to be a reason why this nurse is so evil. No one is born wanting to give everyone she sees a lobotomy. Plus, aren’t nurses supposed to help people? She seemed to be doing everything but.

The trailer shows us where her obsession with lobotomies comes from. In one scene, she stands in awe as a doctor demonstrates the new treatment. Maybe she thinks she’s doing them a favor by essentially murdering them. Who knows. It’s the age old question, is it nature or nurture? Would Nurse Ratched have turned out this cold if she was nurtured as a child, or did she just find the perfect place to let that side of her out? I personally think it is a mix of both, however, there are people out there who would disagree.

Standouts

One thing I have to say about this trailer, is that whoever was in charge of costume design, did a great job. Honestly, I want everything Sarah Paulson wore in the trailer. Everything about the show is dark and mysterious, and Paulson is dressed all in pastels. Mildred’s pep talk to herself in the mirror has two meanings. The character thinks she looks great, and we as an audience think her outfits are on point! My favorites are definitely all the hats.

Not only does the character look amazing, the acting is top notch. I would watch anything Sarah Paulson is in, because, let’s face it, she always kills it. The best thing to happen in the television industry is Sarah becoming Ryan Murphy’s muse. She is finally getting the recognition she deserves and I am so here for it. No matter what part she is playing, she steals any scene she’s in. Plus, she is so funny in her interviews and is just an all around lovable person.

Okay, enough about Sarah Paulson, there are other people on this show too. The show also stars, Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Sophie Okonedo, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Jon Jon Briones, Corey Stoll, Judy Davis, and Finn Wittrock. With a cast like that, there is no doubt this show will be a success. Even with the comparisons to American Horror Story: Asylum. Also, can I just say how disappointed I am in this generation for not knowing it’s based on a book. It is not an American Horror Story rip-off! I cannot stress this enough!

Wrap Up

Anyways, the show drops on Netflix next week, on September 18. Let us hope it’s not a let down!
