Khloe Kardashian and her team are working overtime right now to rid the internet of an unedited bikini picture of the reality star. Is this what social media culture is doing to us?
Khloe Kardashian is scouring the internet, searching for anyone who still has access to her unedited bikini pics. The picture in question features Khloe in a leopard bikini, standing happily by a pool. The only difference about this picture, is that it’s missing Khloe’s signature heavy editing. If you have posted this picture, beware, you may find yourself under some legal threat soon.
“The color edited photo was taken of Khloé during a private family gathering and posted to social media without permission by mistake by an assistant,”
Tracy Romulus, chief marketing officer for KKW Brands, said in a statement.
Khloe’s team contacted everyone who posted this photo asking them to take it down, or face legal repercussions. While they called the photo beautiful, they claimed it was posted without Khloe’s approval. I find it so depressing, that the only photos Khloe approves are the ones that she looks like an alien in. No one looks like she does in those heavily edited pictures. Khloe in particular has been called out over and over for her obviously Facetuned pictures. I’ll say it again, no one looks like that!
Khloe is a hypocrite
Is this really where social media and selfie culture has led us? I’ve heard of people taking down photos if it doesn’t get enough likes, but this is ridiculous. Khloe Kardashian is the biggest advocate for self love. The Good American slogan is “Representing Body Acceptance.” She had a whole show about body positivity and loving yourself despite what you look like. Putting all this out there is worth nothing when you can’t practice what you preach. Only posting mega filtered photos of yourself, undoes all this positivity you helped spread otherwise.
That picture is probably my favorite I have seen of her, because it is real. She looks great, and the picture doesn’t make me feel bad about myself when I see it. By taking it down, she sends a greater message. A message that says we are not built beautiful. That the only way to be beautiful is to edit your body and face until you look like a different person. Editing pictures is so popular, the look has been dubbed “Instagram Face.”
What is Instagram Face?
Instagram Face is the specific look users strive to achieve when they edit their photos. These pictures usually feature wide eyes, smooth skin and full pouty lips. Everyone edits their face to look this way, and therefore everyone on the app looks the same. This caused such an extreme view of what is beautiful. Everyone is trying to look like models and influencers, who have definitely altered their looks surgically. It is our unique differences that make us beautiful, not smooth skin and pouty lips.
Okay, I’m done ranting about the stupidity that is our socially constructed ideals of beauty. You won’t find me editing my photos ever. You will find me making fun of everyone that does though! I will end with this. If this is the route Khloe Kardashian wants to take, she should find a new way to brand herself. She is not the body positive queen she’s been selling herself as for years. If she thinks she looks beautiful in that picture, as she says she does, why not just let it stay up?
