My Emmy Predictions

If the Oscars is my Christmas and the Golden Globes is my Super Bowl than the Emmy’s are my NBA Finals.

The first award show of the season is tonight and the excitement is setting in. There are a lot of really good actors and shows nominated and full disclosure I have not watched them all. To watch them all would mean I did nothing but watch TV all last year and that would just be impossible. As much as I would like to do that, inconveniences such as work and school tend to get in the way. However, just because I haven’t watched them does not mean I can’t have an opinion. Speaking of opinions let’s get to them.

Outstanding Comedy Series
Atlanta n
Barry
Black-ish
Curb your Enthusiasm
GLOW
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Silicon Valley
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Out of the eight shows listed I have watched four but I can confidently say I have watched the winning show. My favorite show is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, partly because I finally learned how to spell marvelous through watching it. Honestly though every scene was funnier than the last and when you think it can’t get funnier, it does. I have watched this show three times and am rapidly running out of patience for the second season. Although I haven’t watched it, the show I think could possibly win instead is Atlanta. Donald Glover is killing the game right now and Atlanta is always in the conversation. I’m honestly surprised I haven’t watched it.

Outstanding Drama Series
The Americans
The Crown
Game of Thrones
The Handmaid’s Tale
Stranger Things
This is Us
Westworld

Having to pick a winner in this category is like having to pick a favorite child (I can only imagine because I don’t have children). The only show on this list I have not seen is The Americans and I am obsessed with the rest. If I had to pick a favorite it would be a three way tie between Game of Thrones, The Crown and Stranger Things. None of those however are going to be the big winner. I predict that the Handmaid’s Tale is going to take home that statue. It has done the impossible and has given critics a show they love more than Game of Thrones. It’s honestly one of the best shows out there and the acting is top tiered across the board. If I saw Ann Dowd on the street I would run and hide in fear of Aunt Lydia. It would be great if one of my favorites could win or if The Americans could win for their last season but it’s definitely going to The Handmaid’s Tale.

Acting

The acting categories start with those who acted in a limited series and I have only watched one listed. Based on that I’m going to make a guess and say Darren Chris will win for his role of Andrew Cunanan in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. This educated guess comes from the fact that this is the only miniseries I watched. For actress in a limited series I’m going to go with Sarah Paulson because I love her.

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Anderson, Black-ish
Ted Danson, The Good Place
Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Donald Glover, Atlanta
Bill Hader, Barry
William H. Macey, Shameless

I’m going to be real with you guys I have only really seen Shameless and even with that I am not completely caught up. That being said I really do want William H. Macey to win. My wanting him to win really has nothing to do with his acting on the show, although it truly is amazing, but with him as a person. I just think he’s a great human being and I love seeing his wife Felicity Huffman’s Instagram posts featuring him. I think Donald Glover is going to win for Atlanta just because he seems to be really on top of his game right now. I think he’s on a forward path with a lot of momentum and he’s going to take the top prize. It makes me feel better that he also seems like a great person.

Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Pamela Adlon, Better Things
Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Issa Rae, Insecure
Tracee Ellis Ross, Black-ish
Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie

I think I made my love for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel pretty well known so I think we can all guess who I want to win. I also love Lily Tomlin in Grace and Frankie but I think Rachel Brosnahan has this one. She has already been awarded a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Midge Maisel and I think an Emmy is next. She is absolutely flawless on that show and I can’t say enough nice things about the show as a whole or her work on the show.

Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Jason Bateman, Ozark
Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us
Ed Harris, Westworld
Matthew Rhys, The Americans
Milo Ventimiglia, This Is Us
Jeffrey Wright, Westworld

This category is problematic because it pits arguably televisions two best dads against each other and it is absolutely impossible to choose between them. Jack and Randall are ultimate dad goals. I know that they’re actually Milo and Sterling but they are just that good. They are so good that I forget Jack and Randall don’t exist outside of the This Is Us realm. Anyways no matter which one of them get the Emmy we are guaranteed a really moving and inspiring speech.

Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Claire Foy, The Crown
Elisabeth Moss, The Handmaid’s Tale
Sandra Oh, Killing Eve
Keri Russell, The Americans
Evan Rachel Wood, Westworld
Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black

There are so many outcomes I would be happy with in this category although I think I already know who is going to win. I would love to see Sandra Oh, or Dr. Cristina Yang as I still call her, make history tonight and be the first actress of Asian decent to win in the lead actress category. I would love to hear that speech and see Sandra Oh get the recognition she deserves for Killing Eve. It is such a good show that I could not stop watching. I would also love to see Keri Russell win because it is the last season of the Americans and her last chance for a role that she has played beautifully for years. Lastly, I want Claire Foy to win for her portrayal as the queen of England. She is flawless in that role and transports me back in time every time I watch The Crown. It is also her last season on the show and it would be amazing to end her journey with an Emmy. All this being said, I think the Emmy will go to Elizabeth Moss because she is a genius.

Check back tomorrow to see if I picked the right nominees to place my bets on.
