Weekend Roundup: Craziest Headlines From Over The Weekend

This weekend was filled with crazy headlines, and I’m here to break it all down, for everyone too busy to keep up, in my weekly weekend roundup.

Another week, another weekend roundup. A lot went down this weekend, leaving some happy and others upset. Injuries, canceled weddings, cancellations of old shows and the creation of a new one are all very exciting. It’s crazy to think all this happened in just one weekend. I personally didn’t leave the couch all weekend. Don’t have any idea what I’m talking about? Don’t worry, I have you covered with this weeks edition of weekend roundup!

Hulu Cancels High Fidelity

Weekend Roundup: High Fidelity still

Zoë Kravitz announced the cancellation of her Hulu show, High Fidelity, on Friday via social media. I never watched the show, but it seemed interesting and like something I would eventually get to. People were initially iffy about remaking this 2,000s movie into a TV show, but once Zoë was cast, everything changed. Critics loved it and so did the fans. The premise of the show is this woman Rob, goes back to all her ex boyfriends and asks them what she did wrong in the relationship. While there is more to the story, that is what I gathered from every trailer I watched.

Announcing the cancellation is one thing, however Zoë took it one step further by bashing Hulu for its lack of diverse programming. When Tessa Thompson commented on the post claiming she’ll miss them, Zoë responded with,“It’s cool. At least Hulu has a ton of other shows starring women of color we can watch. Oh wait.” Now, I mostly use Hulu to watch reality TV and shows from the 90’s so I personally didn’t notice this. I’ve never even been on the Hulu originals page. From my research though, I can support her statement. Here was this show, featuring a complex woman of color, who defied the set archetype of how she should act, and Hulu cancels it. I don’t think the streaming service will take a big hit, I just think they have a lot to think about.

Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland’s Wedding

Celebrities, they’re just like us! Just like millions of couples around the world, Sarah and Wells were forced to postpone their wedding. Their original wedding date was August 8, but due to Coronavirus, it couldn’t happen. The two didn’t let their circumstances keep them down though. They celebrated their special day by drinking wine and taking pictures at some winery. Not to mention the cutest Mr. and Mrs. inscribed masks. They are quickly becoming one of my favorite Hollywood. They are so cute together.

The pair are taking extreme quarantine measures (as we all should) because Sarah is immunocompromised. She was born with Kidney Displasia resulting in two kidney transplants. This is one of the reasons, I think this couple will last. They met right before Sarah’s second transplant, when she was absolutely at her lowest point and experiencing extreme health problems. If someone is able to stand by you through that, after just meeting you, it says something big. I think they are made for each other. Their Instagram stories together prove that.

Simon Cowell In Recovery

The world’s harshest, and most entertaining, critic, is in the hospital. Word got out on Sunday, that Simon Cowell fell of an electric bike and broke his back. The fall resulted in a six hour surgery to repair fractures in multiple places. Part of the surgery included the insertion of a metal rod. Cowell’s rep told Entertainment Tonight that “He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.” Obviously he wasn’t present to film the ongoing America’s Got Talent auditions, but that doesn’t mean his costars didn’t miss him. Sophia, Heidi and Howie all reached out on Twitter to wish him a speedy recovery.

While he isn’t well enough to film AGT he sure is well enough to tweet! He tweeted a lesson for us all, which he learned the hard way, to always read the instruction manual when trying something new. Especially when that something new, is an electric bike. He also thanked all the doctors and nurses who helped him and repaired his back. I wish him a speedy recovery!

Elle Fanning A Murderer?

From one canceled Hulu show, to a new Hulu original. Elle Fanning has signed on to star in Hulu’s new limited series, The Girl From Plainville. The show is based on the story of Michelle Carter. Michelle gained notoriety when convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017. Her case is known as the “texting-suicide” case. Michelle was in a long distance relationship with a teenage boy whom she had either never met or only met a few times. A majority of the relationship was texting. When he expressed to her he wanted to commit suicide she encouraged him, hence the involuntary manslaughter conviction.

I am so excited for this show to premiere. I am such a fan of anything the Fanning sisters star in. They are so talented. Fanning is just coming off a super successful first season of another Hulu original, The Great. Not only that, but this whole story kind of blows my mind. The nuances of mental health and how that comes into play, and Michelle’s own state of mind at the time is so interesting. I am a true crime fanatic and will watch anything surrounding that topic. I’m just excited all around. I hope COVID doesn’t push the release to far away.

Well there you have it, my weekend roundup! What was your favorite headline from the weekend?
