The Crown Season 3 Teaser Trailer Released

I will never be able to understand Netflix’s love of getting us hooked on a series and then making us wait two years for a new season.

A teaser trailer for the third season of Netflix’s super popular series The Crown was released Monday featuring Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II for the first time. I’m not sure if what we were given can actually be considered a trailer, because all we got was thirty seconds of looking at an empty office followed by ten seconds of Coleman staring at the camera dressed as the queen. The best part of what was released yesterday was that we were also given a release date for the next season, which is sometime in November. It has been two years since the last season and the wait quite frankly has been agonizing. I understand that they took their time making the show the best it could possibly be but two years seems a bit excessive. It’s not like there are any crazy special effects like for Game of Thrones or Stranger Things, so I would really like to know what took so long.

The upcoming season of The Crown will feature an all new cast and will take place within the years of 1964 through 1976. Claire Foy will step down as the Queen and be replaced by Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman, Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margret will be taken over by Helena Bohnam Carter and Tobias Menzies will take over Matt Smith’s role of Prince Philip. I loved the original cast and was obsessed with Claire Foy as the Queen but I agree with the idea of casting older actors to portray the Queen as she aged rather than putting prosthetic makeup on the young actors. I mean Mandy Moore rocks the prosthetics on This is Us but if I’m going to be honest, it is a little creepy. I’m excited to see what these new actors bring to the show.

There are so many historical moments that people are excited about seeing come to life on their screens in this new season. For people like me who were not alive in the 60s and 70s and who are very intrigued by the royal family and their history, this show is our lifeblood. I am such history geek and love to learn about every scandal that has ever happened in the history of scandals and I love this show. The only scandal that used to come to mind when I thought of the royal family was Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage, all the infidelity, her death and all the conspiracy around it. Who knew that Princess Margaret was such a rebel, that Prince Philip’s family were Nazis and that Prince Edward also had ties with the Nazi party? I mean, maybe some people did but I did not. This is the kind of stuff I live for and I am so excited to learn more details about the royal family. Ultimately I guess I could just Google this information but watching it on TV is so much more interesting.

Anyways, season 3 of The Crown is set to be released on Netflix on November 17.
