People’s Choice Awards Predictions

Will the fan favorites come out on top, or will a dark horse come in and shock everyone?

The People’s Choice Awards is a month away and fans have been voting on their favorite movies, TV shows and actors since September. There are definitely a few categories where the winners are pretty obvious and voting for something else would be pointless. Many of these subcategories fall under the movies section. They split the movies category into five different sections; Movie of 2018, Action Movie of 2018, Comedy Movie of 2018, Drama Movie of 2018 and Family Movie of 2018.

Movie of 2018

Avengers: Infinity War
Black Panther
Incredibles 2
Deadpool 2
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Fifty Shades Freed
Ready Player One
A Quiet Place
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
A Wrinkle in Time
Ocean’s 8
Mission: Impossible – Fallout

Were these really the best movies of 2018? Highest grossing, maybe, but I’m not sure about best (besides Incredibles 2, that movie was a masterpiece worth the wait). It wouldn’t take a genius to predict that either Black Panther or Avengers: Infinity War is going to win, but most likely Black Panther. The Marvel universe has some dedicated fans and they will stop at nothing. If I had it my way, A Quiet Place or Ready Player One would win. Every other movie on this list, while entertaining, were just lacking in substance. A good plot is what makes a good movie for me and let’s face it, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is severely lacking in that department. Who cares that the dinosaurs are dying, they almost killed everyone. Why would anyone go back to the island and save them? Makes no sense.

Comedy of 2018

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again
Crazy Rich Asians

Let’s get right into it. Based off of the raving reviews and the amazing audience reaction Crazy Rich Asians got when it came out, it would be a major shock to the world if it did not win. Unpopular opinion, I did not actually like Crazy Rich Asians. I might be the only person who watched it and walked away disappointed. There were definitely scenes that had me laughing but for the most part I found it extremely cheesy. Awkwafina’s character was for sure my favorite and when she wasn’t on screen, I was bored. My ultimate pick would either be Love, Simon or Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. Anyone who has seen me watch the first Mamma Mia movie, knows I’m a huge fan. I can recite the entire movie and sing every word to every song. Although the second one was not quite as good, it was good enough for me. Love, Simon was also a really good movie and funny in a subtle way. It wasn’t a traditional comedy where every joke is set up and the punchline is super obvious. That’s my kind of humor, which is why I am not a fan of the other movies on this list. They may be funny to watch once but they might as well all be the same movie. I have not seen Tag, but that seems to be something I would enjoy.

Check back tomorrow for my thoughts on Action Movie of 2018, Drama Movie of 2018 and Family Movie of 2018.
