Ozark To Come To An End With Two Part Final Fourth Season

Ozark, the beloved Netflix original, has been renewed for a fourth and final season, putting an end to the Byrd family drama.

Producers of Ozark announced Netflix’s decision to cancel the show Tuesday morning. This came as quite a shock to fans as Ozark is one of the platforms most popular shows. The final season will be 14 episodes with seven episodes released at a time. While the show’s popularity has never been questioned, the fate of the Byrd family is always up in the air. Whether they are kidnapped or doing the kidnapping, we never know what’s coming next. Lucky for us, Netflix is giving show runners a chance to wrap up their stories. The show runners are happy too!

“We’re so happy Netflix recognized the importance of giving ‘Ozark’ more time to end the Byrdes’ saga right,” showrunner Chris Mundy said. “It’s been such a great adventure for all of us — both on screen and off — so we’re thrilled to get the chance to bring it home in the most fulfilling way possible.”

Spoilers Ahead

I for one am so upset the show is ending. I just started watching while in quarantine, and thought I found my new show. I’m glad to finally find out what’s going to happen to the Byrd’s but I don’t want it to end. When we left them, Marty and Wendy just arrived in Mexico and witnessed the murder of cartel lawyer, Helen. Talk about a shocking cliffhanger for an ending. Not to mention Wyatt’s disturbing relationship with Darlene and Ruth’s heartbreak after Ben’s death. Will Marty turn the FBI agent? Will Wendy come to her senses? There is so much to wrap up and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

Ozark has been a consistent success for Netlfix, with many award show nominations. Since it’s debut in 2017, the show has been nominated for 14 Emmys. They even won some of them! Julia Garner, who plays fan favorite, Ruth Langmore, won for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series in 2019. That same year, Jason Bateman won for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, for a season 2 episode he directed. Laura Linney and the show have also consistently been nominated. No doubt they’ll be nominated during the 2021 award show circuit.

Final Thoughts

Like I said before, I’m bummed this show is ending. I am glad though that they aren’t taking the Grey’s Anatomy route, and are ending at their peak. No one can say it should have ended sooner. No word yet on when the new season will be uploaded to Netflix. With COVID, who knows when they can even film it! It’ll give everyone who hasn’t seen it a chance to catch up though!
