Lady Gaga’s ‘Chromatica’ Named This Week’s Friday Favorite

Lady Gaga’s new album “Chromatica,” her first album since the “A Star Is Born” soundtrack, dropped this week and it instantly became a fan favorite.

Lady Gaga returned to her pop princess beginnings with her new album “Chromatica.” After multiple leaks Gaga stopped the hackers by releasing the full thing on her own terms. It’s a full 16 track album full of songs you can let loose and dance too. What a shame the clubs aren’t open right now. Gaga released some of the songs on the album prior to its release, and they received positive reviews. It’s not a surprise then that the rest of the album is doing so well. Just being honest here, I haven’t listened to most of the album. Here is what I think of about the songs I actually have listened to!

Sour Candy Featuring Blackpink

I am in no way shape or form a K-Pop fan. Due to this, I was not expecting to like this song…but I loved it. I actually like the Blackpink parts better than Lady Gaga’s part. It’s a great upbeat dance track which I can see myself dancing to at parties in the future. It’s not surprising that I liked this song, considering it hit over 20 million views since it’s Thursday release. Maybe I’ll give K-Pop a chance now that I found out I like one of their most popular girl groups. Anyways, I am a fan of Sour Candy, both in snack form and musically.

Rain On Me Featuring Ariana Grande

I don’t hate this song, but I’m not obsessed with it either. I like Lady Gaga’s part in the beginning, but it goes downhill for me after that. It sounds like one of those songs I’ll listen to once and then skip every time it plays in the car. There’s nothing wrong with it, and it’s a great song just not my favorite. Cut to me a few months from now though singing and dancing enthusiastically to it at parties. Happens all the time. Everyone else seems to love it though so snaps for Lady Gaga.

911

Unlike “Rain on Me” this song doesn’t sound like a typical pop dance track. When I listen to this, I don’t feel like it is a song I have heard a million times just with different words. I like the almost robotic sound of her voice. She’s giving us a modern take on the classic 80’s sound and I am loving this vibe. I loved when she was Joanne and then Ally, but I missed this Gaga and I’m happy she’s back. I listen to this song, and I’m back in 7th grade when Pokerface was released and I’m dancing in science class. It’s good stuff.

Sine From Above Featuring Elton John

When I was listening to this song, I felt like I was in middle school again. Back when techno music ruled and Basshunter and Cascada were King and Queen. Honestly if this song was released back then, it would fit in just fine. Elton John’s voice definitely adds another layer and elevates the song. His voice in what is essentially a techno track, is so unexpected but it fits great. It’s not my favorite but I do like it.

Alice

I like this one a lot! The verses are pretty calm and the chorus is where she pops off. It has the same robotic vibe as “911” which I guess is something I’m into. You learn something new every day apparently. Not much I can say about this one really. I like it and I will promptly be adding it to my playlist on Spotify.

Conclusion

Chromatica proved itself to be a great album, which will definitely help us get through the rest of quarantine. Now that you know what I think of the songs I listened to, let me know what song was your favorite. Also, where do you think Chromatica ranks compared to her other albums? Let me know in the comments!
