Dancing With The Stars Reveals Upcoming Season 29 Cast

Dancing with the Stars reveals the cast for its upcoming 29th season, after a summer of speculation as to who will compete for the mirror ball trophy.

Dancing with the Stars has been around for so long, and grown increasingly unpopular. I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if the news this morning was that the show has been canceled. The dancing gods came through though, and the B and C list celebrities live to dance another day. At this point, the pro dancers are bigger celebrities than the actual celebrities who are competing. I think they stepped it up this season though. I promised myself I would boycott if I saw one more influencer competing. Those people are not real celebrities! Fight me on that. Anyways, here is the cast for season 29 of Dancing with the Stars.

Carole Baskin

Dancing with the Stars contestant Carole Baskin.

I mean, what can I say about this one. Are we really celebrating murderers now? I have super low expectations for her and am absolutely dreading her inevitable tiger themed first dance. Our eyes could have been spared, but ABC is desperate for viewers at this point. I don’t imagine she will get very far in the competition, given everyone who watched Tiger King, came out of it hating her. I hope she’s paired with a dancer I don’t care for, so I don’t feel bad when they get eliminated.

A.J. McLean

Backstreet’s back alright! This is where Dancing with the Stars continues its reputation for casting people who peaked in the 90s. This time however, I am not mad at it. If their goal is to engage a younger audience, maybe this will work. I was always more of an NSYNC* fan, but Backstreet Boys are great too and still somewhat relevant. Plus I think he’ll be able to do well considering boy banders are supposed to be great dancers. I don’t think he’ll make it far, but he won’t be voted out too soon. He’s more of a middle of the pack guy.

Kaitlyn Bristowe

The Bachelor/Bachelorette is where I draw the line when it comes to reality TV. That being said, I have no idea who this person is. Apparently she has a podcast and a scrunchie line. I still don’t know why we give these people any of our time. It is so clear, that people only go on this show to become famous, so why do we allow it to happen? I don’t know, she’s young so she might do well and go far in the competition. People who watch the show, also seem to love her, so she’ll probably get a lot of votes. I don’t vote, but she wouldn’t get my vote, even if I did.

Monica Aldama

Now here is someone I would vote for if I voted. I fell in love with Monica after watching Cheer on Netflix. All I want is for her to be my cheer coach, and I’m willing to move to Corsicana to make that happen. We can ignore the fact, that I have never cheered in my life. Monica is so good, she can teach me in a week. I think, she will go pretty far in the competition. She’s tough, has a lot of fans and used to be a cheerleader, which means she’s athletic. Athletes usually do well on this show. I’m really looking forward to watching her compete.

Vernon Davis

I am not a football fan, therefor, I also don’t know who this is. Like I said though, athletes do well on this show, so I think he will do well. I really don’t have anything else to say.

Anne Hech

I just looked Anne Hech up a few days ago. She hasn’t done anything recently, and isn’t the most relevant person on the cast. This is definitely an attempt at some sort of a reputation clean up, or reminder to the world that she exists. That is a Dancing with the Stars trademark. I only know her as Ellen’s ex-girlfriend, and I only know about that because the relationship ended so badly. She may surprise me, but I think she will also finish somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Skai Jackson

I am very surprised Skai agreed to do Dancing with the Stars. I don’t know why, but I was most shocked to see her name on the list. Regardless of my shock, I’m still super excited to see her compete. I think she will do a great job and possibly win the whole thing. It will be great to see her as an adult and express all the different parts of her. I have only ever seen her as a Disney Star and it’ll be cool to see her branch out. I can’t wait to see what she has to offer, not only on Dancing with the Stars, but throughout her career.

Justina Machado

I’m also surprised to see her on the list, but also equally excited. One Day at a Time is such a great show, and she is such a big part of what makes it great. Can we talk about how stupid Netflix was to cancel it? The worst decision ever made. Anyways, lets move on. I’m not sure how well she’ll do on the show, but I think I have high hopes. I changed my mind, just now. I think she’ll do really well. She is fun and energetic, and everything the show is about. If her dancing isn’t great, her attitude will be and the audience will eat it up.

Jeannie Mai

I don’t know what it is about her, but she has always annoyed me. I also can’t see her doing very well on the show for some reason. She could prove me wrong, but I don’t see it coming. I wish her all the best though.

Jesse Metcalf

The token hot boy of the early 2,000s is resurrected. I think this is another example of someone trying to remind the world that he exists. I love all of his work from 20 years ago, also known as the last time he was relevant. John Tucker Must Die is a must watch for every teenage girl and I feel bad for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Anyways, I think he will suck at dancing, but will get the vote because he is so beautiful.

Nelly

The most shocked to see Nelly on this list. I don’t think a rapper has ever been on Dancing with the Stars before. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am. As much as I would love for him to do well, I don’t think it’s in the cards for him. He will give it his best shot, but I don’t think he will go far. The nostalgia vote may keep him around a few weeks, but I don’t think his scores will be very high.

Charles Oakley

I really hate when Dancing with the Stars does this. The older celebrities never do well and face the harshest critiques week after week. The former NBA player’s popularity soared once again this year after he appeared in ESPN’s The Last Dance. I know the whole point is to take people who have never danced, and turn them into dancers, but it doesn’t always work. I just hope it doesn’t turn into a humiliating experience, because it’s supposed to be fun.

Nev Schulman

I like Nev on Catfish, even though I know the show is completely scripted. He’s also a really cool feminist and spreads some really cool ideas. I have no idea how he’ll be as a dancer but I am rooting for his success.

Chrishell Stause

I don’t watch Selling Sunset, but I know it is a big hit and everyone seems to love it. I’m pretty sure she is the one who has drama with Justin Hartley, so I hope that plays out a little. Some extra drama and spice always makes the show more interesting. I couldn’t care less either way with her and probably will use her dance as rummage through my pantry break.

Johnny Weir

I swear, I thought Johnny already competed on Dancing with the Stars. He won his Olympic medals in 2008, so it would make much more sense if he was asked to be on the show back then. Don’t know why he wasn’t but who am I to have all the answers. Anyways, better late than never, as they say. Johnny finally has his day in the sun. I think he will do pretty well, considering figure skating is like dancing on ice. He is graceful and his body is used to moving in certain ways. This all adds up to a recipe for Johnny Weir success.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I am actually so excited to watch this season of Dancing with the Stars. I haven’t felt like this about this show in a long time. I think, changing the host to Tyra Banks, and getting relevant and somewhat bigger names, really elevated the show.

Who do you think is going to win this season? Let me know in the comments!
